In this tutorial we will show you how to translate Listimia by using the free and currently most suitable translation plugin Loco Translate.
Listimia is translation ready, which means that you can translate it to any language you need. Here are instructions on how to do so.
Step 1: Installation and Activation of Loco Translate
To install the Loco Translate plugin, simply navigate to Plugins → Add New and search for the plugin Loco Translate.
After installing this plugin the Loco Translate menu appears in your dashboard menu. You need to go to Loco Translate → Themes and select Listimia.
Step 2: Translate Theme Strings
To start the translation of the theme, click on Listimia theme and see a screen that looks something like this:
Notice that Listimia contains ready translation files in multiple languages. Simply click ont he language you want to edit (French in this case).
The translation screen is split into two sections: Within the upper section you can see the original default strings in english language and within the lower section you can type in the new translation for each string based on the language you've chosen.
It is now up to you to enter the correct translation for the word or phrase you have chosen into the Italian translation section.
Click the Save button to secure your translation as soon as you are done.
Step 3: Change language of your WordPress installation
To activate and use the new language files which you just have translated, you need to change the language of your WordPress installation accordingly to that particular language – in case you haven't done that earlier. Please navigate to Settings → General in your WordPress dashboard and switch to your local language. WordPress will then automatically use your newly created language files to display the translated strings of your WordPress theme accordingly.
That's all
Missing translation strings ?
Sometimes you may not be able to locate a particular string that is present in the theme to be in your language files. To add the missing texts to your translation files follow these steps:
- Go to LocoTranslate → Theme and select your theme
- Select Edit Template
- In the new screen click on the Sync button once and save. (This forces Loco to go and look for missing texts inside the theme and add them to the template.)
- Now back to LocoTranslate → Theme and select your theme again, this time click on the language you’re translating, to edit the translation file.
- In this screen click the Sync as well, so now the this translation file syncs up with the template file (done in step 2).
After translating a theme there are a few things you should be aware of:
Back-up your Translations
Just because the translation files are stored in your theme folder, this means that there is a high probability that these will be deleted if the theme will be updated in the future. So we recommend you to copy the folder /languages/ from your theme and all its files on your computer.
